My Newest Teacup Painting Pays Tribute To Both Late Summer And Early Fall

Said the little daisy, "I am very well content
      To live simply in the meadow where the sun and rain are sent;
Where the bees all gather sweetness, and the dew falls on my head,
And the radiance of the moonlight is all around me shed.
"The grass and clover blossoms admire my beauty all day long,
As I listen to the music of a bird's delightful song..."

~Gertrude Tooley Buckingham, "Two Little Daisies" (1940s)

Lady Beatrice, Teacup Watercolour Painting, August 19, 2015
By Artist Laura Leeder

Lady Beatrice ~ My newest teacup painting pays tribute to late summer and early fall.

I've long wanted to include this pretty multi-coloured floral teacup in a painting. The gloriosa daisy beautifully complements the delicate blue flowers and pulls forward the cheerful yellow and rich gold in the teacup.   I also chose the lace for it's suggested daisy pattern.

A few other common names for the gloriosa daisy are black-eyed susan, brown betty and yellow oxe-eye daisy.

These warm, yellow gold daisies symbolize, affection, stability, happiness, cheerfulness, a glad heart and sunshine.  In late August when all the other flowers are losing their vigor, these daisies continue to put on a glorious show of colour well into late October.  As the name Beatrice means "a bringer of gladness" and has a royal heritage, the title Lady Beatrice seemed a perfect fit.

Lady Beatrice is now available as a limited Edition Print and in notecards.

Creston's Newest Gallery ~ Puffin Design Is A "Must See" During Your Summer Travels

"Creativity is a lifestyle, and ideas are the product and lifeblood of that lifestyle."  ~ Miles G. Batt

Get inspired by Puffin Design’s
unique, eclectic and sometimes even outrageous home decor.

If you're traveling through the Creston Valley be sure to put a visit to Puffin Design gallery on your "places to see" list. This designer gallery is the newest creative venture for Bart and Alison Bjorkman, both designers, creators and artists.

Along with their own creations, these designers also showcase
the work of other local creatives.

Some pieces like this one are a collaboration. The ironwork is by Andrew Bibby and the concrete top is by Bart Bjorkman of Legend Rock Concrete.

The rescued and refurbished chairs are the work of Alison Bjorkman.

For a sneak peak at the process, check out Alison's blog
as she works on a commissioned chair.

Each of these pieces are unique works of art
that would make a statement in your home.

Are you planning a bathroom remodel?

Here are a few gift ideas.
The decorative wine bottles are designed by local artist Win Dinn
(I have one on display in my own home and guests are always oohing and awing over it)

Win Dinn ~ Gallery Associate of Puffin Designs
(mixed media artist, instructor and a dear friend!)

And one more photo.....take a look at this knock-out sliding barn door that separates the front gallery from the working area at the back of the shop.
 (I want one!)

There is a viewing window to the left where one can watch the artists at work.  Along the back wall ~ lighting by Bart and pottery by Alison.

There is so much more, but, you must come in and see for yourself!

Puffin Design and Legend Rock Concrete
The gallery is located  on 137 - 15th Ave N Creston, BC
